Who is a foundation year for?

A foundation year may be suitable if you:

• Do not have A-Levels

• Left school without strong qualifications

It is not a shortcut. You still need to study, attend classes, complete assignments, and show that you are ready for higher education.

Is a foundation year the same as a foundation degree?

No. They sound similar, but they are different.

A foundation year is normally the first year of a longer degree pathway. After completing it, you usually move into year one of the main degree.

A foundation degree is a separate higher education qualification, usually equivalent to the first two years of a degree. Some students later “top up” to a full bachelor’s degree.
